Nearby Share / Quick Share for iPhone — here's what works

Quick Share (formerly Nearby Share) is built for Android, and Google's iPhone bridge is limited to a Pixel 9 with a 10-minute visibility window. If you just want to move a file between an Android and an iPhone — or any phone and a computer — WeScanTransfer does it in the browser.

In short

Nearby Share / Quick Share is Android-only, and Google's 2026 iPhone support requires a Pixel 9 and a 10-minute 'Everyone' visibility window, so almost no Android+iPhone pair can use it. WeScanTransfer works from any Android or iPhone (and any computer) in the browser: scan a QR to pair and send files up to 3 GB, no app and no account.

Why Quick Share doesn't solve iPhone transfers

Android-only by design

Quick Share and Nearby Share were built for Android and Windows. iPhones aren't part of the system.

The iPhone bridge is tiny

Google's iPhone support needs a Pixel 9 (not even the 9a) and only detects AirDrop-enabled devices during a 10-minute window — useless for most people.

Samsung → iPhone isn't offline

Samsung's link-share to iPhone uploads the file to Samsung's cloud over Wi-Fi first — not a direct, private transfer.

No computer in the loop

Quick Share to a Mac or a non-Windows PC isn't supported. WeScanTransfer works with any computer too.

How to transfer files between Android and iPhone (and any computer)

  1. 1

Open the site on one device

Go to wescantransfer.com on either phone (or a computer). A QR code and link appear — no app, no account.

  2. 2

    Scan or share the link

Scan the QR with the other device's camera, or send the link. They pair in seconds across any network.

  3. 3

    Send up to 3 GB

Move photos, videos and files both ways. Everything auto-deletes after 24 hours.

Phones and computers

Also moves files to and from Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS — it's just a browser.

Direct and private

No uploading to a manufacturer's cloud; encrypted transfer that hard-deletes after 24 hours.

No app, no account, 3 GB free

Nothing to install and nobody to sign up. Files up to 3 GB, free.

Nearby Share / Quick Share for iPhone — FAQ

Does Nearby Share or Quick Share work with iPhone?

Not really. They're Android-first, and Google's iPhone bridge needs a Pixel 9 and a 10-minute 'Everyone' visibility window, so most Android+iPhone pairs can't use it. WeScanTransfer works from any Android or iPhone in the browser.

How do I transfer files from Android to iPhone?

Open wescantransfer.com on one phone, scan the QR with the other, and send files up to 3 GB both ways — no app, no account, works across any network.

Why won't Quick Share find my iPhone?

Quick Share is designed for Android and Windows; iPhones aren't part of the discovery system except in Google's very limited Pixel-9 bridge. A QR-based tool avoids discovery entirely.

Can I send to a Mac or PC too?

Yes. WeScanTransfer runs in the browser, so it moves files to and from Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS as well as phones.

No catch — the honest answers

The six questions people ask before they trust a transfer tool.

Is it really free?

Yes. Sending files up to 3 GB is free — no sign-up, no credit card, no ads, and no watermark on anything. The free tier is fully usable on its own; an optional Pro plan just raises the limits.

How do you make money?

From the optional Pro subscription, and nothing else. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't monetize your files. Pro upgrades — not your content — fund the service, which is why the free tier can stay generous.

Are my files private?

Yes. A transfer travels over an encrypted connection, and the share link is a long unguessable code, so only someone with that exact link can receive the file. Your files are never opened, indexed, read, or shown to anyone else.

Are files stored forever?

No. Every transfer is hard-deleted after 24 hours — both the file and its database record — and you can remove it instantly with Delete Now. Nothing lingers on our servers.

Are files used to train AI?

Never. Your files are not used to train AI models, build datasets, or improve any product. They are relayed to the recipient and then deleted — that is the entire lifecycle.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes — encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256. The only credential is the unguessable link, and it expires along with the transfer.
